Pray for Death

Previous titles: Spellbound, All Shall Fall, Maleficium

Dialogue from:

Brides of Dracula 1960

Satanic Rites Of Dracula 1974

This used to be my favourite song. I really liked the intro which had a baroque vibe to it and the song was influenced a lot by “Wolf Moon” from Type O Negative. After the more introductionary first song I wanted to set up more of the myth around Dracula. So it seemed fitting to use the intro about the end of 19th century and establish more of what vampirism is. It’s also the first song in which Dracula actually speaks. There isn’t a whole lot of actual dialogue from Dracula but this was a particularly fitting piece.

The biggest changes from the original Mod are the guitar melodies on top of the rhythm sections. Originally we used the melody from the intro but this felt better.

The original name was Spellbound but that was just lazy borrowing from Dimmu Borgir, also a big influence on this album. When I added the narration “Maleficum” was a candidate for the title. It translates to  “An act of witchcraft performed with the intention of causing damage or injury” which sounded fitting but when I decided on using a part of the lyrics “Pray for Death” was the better choice.
